Leaving

By the time the body goes
the spirit is just memory
rushing ahead like dogs unleashed
in a new green world.

The concrete body is faithful
to the exigencies of slow-time,
holding everything that was left behind
making new life.

The heart runs back and forth
a child in a broken marriage
passing unintended messages
between worlds.
